Our 8-day journey through Sri Lanka's Cultural Triangle was nothing short of magical. From the moment we arrived in Colombo, we were immersed in the rich history and vibrant culture of this beautiful island nation.
The highlight was definitely climbing Sigiriya Rock Fortress at sunrise. The 1,200 steps were challenging, but the view from the top was absolutely breathtaking. Our guide shared fascinating stories about King Kashyapa and the ancient frescoes that still adorn the rock face.
In Polonnaruwa, we cycled through the ancient ruins, marveling at the perfectly preserved Buddha statues and the engineering marvels of the ancient irrigation systems. The Gal Vihara rock temple left us speechless.
The Temple of the Tooth in Kandy was a spiritual experience. Witnessing the evening puja ceremony with hundreds of devotees was deeply moving. We also enjoyed a traditional Kandyan dance performance that showcased Sri Lanka's rich cultural heritage.
The food throughout the trip was incredible - from spicy curries to fresh seafood, every meal was a culinary adventure. Our hosts were warm and welcoming, making us feel like family.
